How to Add Trip Insurance to Your Reservations

One of the most common things we hear from Dockwa boaters: "What happens if I have to cancel?" Well, starting now, you'll see the option to add trip protection for your non-refundable reservation costs (even at marinas with strict cancellation policies).

Planning a trip on the water is always a risk. You find the right destination, lock in your dates, make sure everything lines up, and then cross your fingers that Mother Nature and everything else cooperates. Every cruiser knows that feeling.

Trip Protection doesn't change your marina experience or their cancellation policies, but it does help with that risk. It means that when something unexpected comes up before departure, you have a path forward. We're glad to have it ready and available to boaters in time for summer 2026. Be sure to update to the latest version of the Dockwa app to see trip protection options on your next reservation!

A few things worth knowing up front:

  • It's totally optional. You'll see it at checkout on any transient booking form; you decide if you want to add it.

  • Two plan options are available: Trip Protection Plus and a Cancel For Any Reason (CFAR) option.

  • Dockwa or the marina you're booking at do not manage the policies.

We've partnered with ViCoverage to make this available to you. Once you opt in, they'll handle your questions, claims, and customer support regarding your policy. You can contact them directly at [email protected].
