Payment declines can occur for various reasons. When we, Dockwa, charge your customer's bank, the bank's automated systems decide whether to accept the charge. These systems evaluate factors like the customer’s spending habits, account balance, and card details such as the expiration date and CVC.
It's important to note that these factors can change over time. Therefore, a card that was previously accepted might get declined later on. Even if the card information is accurate and there have been successful payments in the past, the bank's fraud prevention systems might still decline a charge. This is especially true if the customer has been making multiple reservations, leading the bank to temporarily freeze the card and verify the transactions' legitimacy with the customer.
Understanding the Reason for a Decline
Most declines are generic, and we at Dockwa usually don't have detailed information about why a charge was declined.
If the card information appears correct, the best course of action is for your customer to contact their bank for more details and to request that future charges from Dockwa be accepted.
Minimizing Declines
To reduce the likelihood of declines, it's crucial that your customer ensures the accuracy of their card number, expiration date, and CVC. These are key factors banks consider when approving transactions. Encourage your customers to double-check these details for accuracy.
